Dear ,
I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend! Mine was full of fun and family. Except for today, which was devoted to my own writing, a change inspired by an article I read online recently.
The article made some compelling arguments, and I wish I could find it to share with you, but twenty minutes of examining my browsing history and entering search terms did not turn it up.
So I'll give the gist of what I remember: we are all pretty good at doing what we have to do, and not as good at doing what we dearly want to do. And we are even better at telling ourselves that we'll get to our creative work after our other work is done, and then . . . never actually getting to it. (Maybe this happens to you, too?)
The solution? Do the creative work we dearly want to do first thing in the week.
I've been trying for years to write on Fridays, and ambushing myself more often than not. And I am determined to publish my cookbook memoir, How She Fed Us: Reflections on the Recipes of a Perfectly Imperfect Mother, on March 4th, 2020, which would be my mother's 95th birthday. So, Monday is my new writing day, and I'm moving the zine to Wednesday. (Plus, I must admit that I love the alliteration
of WordPlay Wednesday.)
I'll give you periodic updates on the progress of How She Fed Us, and continue to share writings and prompts with you.
Thank you for being a Word-zine subscriber! I treasure our connection through our love of words and story, and always enjoy hearing from you with ideas and responses.
Love and light,
Maureen
