Dear ,
I rarely send out separate messages about local Charlotte events. But I'm making an exception for the Charlotte unveiling of WordPlayer Patrice Gopo's All the Colors We Will See.
In this moving and inspiring book, Patrice, to quote author of The Body Papers, Grace Talusan, "explores identity, faith, injustice, and, most important, the power of love" "with insight, clarity, and sharp intelligence." I know her book launch at Park Road Books this Thursday, August 9th, which includes a reading and public conversation about race and friendship, will make for a rich, worthwhile evening and I wanted to be sure you knew about it in the event that you can attend. (Either way, you'll have a chance to learn more about Patrice and her book in this Monday's word-zine, in
which she'll be the featured writer.) All the Colors We Will See was named by The Charlotte Observer last month as "a book
to watch for" this summer (read the article about the best memoirs to read this summer here), and it's now available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble, as well as Park
Road Books, a staunch supporter of local authors that I champion with gratitude every chance I get.
All the Colors We Will
See is also a Fall 2018 Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Selection. You can read more about it here. Patrice's Book Event Details You are warmly invited to join Patrice for her upcoming book launch event: a reading and public conversation about race and friendship. MAUREEN RYAN GRIFFIN, an award-winning poetry and nonfiction writer, is the author of Spinning Words into Gold, a Hands-On Guide to the Craft of Writing, a grief workbook entitled I Will Never Forget You, and three collections of poetry, Ten
Thousand Cicadas Can't Be Wrong, This Scatter of Blossoms and When the Leaves Are in the Water.
She believes, as author Julia Cameron says, "We are meant to midwife dreams for one another." Maureen also believes that serious "word work" requires serious WordPlay, as play is how we humans best learn—and perform. What she loves best is witnessing all the other dreams that come true for her clients along the way. Language, when used with intentionality and focus, is, after all, serious fuel for joy. Here's to yours! |
