[WordPlay] Free Food Writing Workshop Tomorrow (and a hilarious bit of food-writing for you to enjoy)!

Published: Tue, 07/14/15

Dear ,

If you are free and in the area, I'd love to have you join me tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15th at 6 p.m. in Huntersville for my "Delicious Memories" workshop. Details are just below. Be sure to register if you'd like to come -- it's free! (And there are limited spaces, so click quick!

And if you can't come, I still want you to enjoy one of the pieces of writing I'm going to share as a prompt. It is one of the funniest "persona poems" (a poem written as if the writer speaks as if she/he were the person being written about). I found it (where else?) in The Wriiter's Almanac years ago -- it's a keeper! Click to read Marge Piercy's "My Mother Gives Me Her Recipe." Then, if you care to, write a persona piece of your own featuring someone telling someone else how to make a food item.

Love and light,

Maureen

Food not only nurtures and sustains us, it’s a rich source of metaphor and memory! MAUREEN RYAN GRIFFIN, an award-winning poetry and nonfiction writer, is the author of Spinning Words into Gold, a Hands-On Guide to the Craft of Writing, a grief workbook entitled I Will Never Forget You, and two collections of poetry, This Scatter of Blossoms and When the Leaves Are in the Water. She believes, as author Julia Cameron says, "We are meant to midwife dreams for one another."

Maureen also believes that serious "word work" requires serious WordPlay, as play is how we humans best learn -- and perform. What she loves best is witnessing all the other dreams that come true for her clients along the way. Language, when used with intentionality and focus, is, after all, serious fuel for joy. Here's to yours!
